What is a construction site system, how does it work and what are the requirements for fire equipment on a construction site? We at Hede Safety tell you everything you need to know and give you seven reasons why you should choose an alarm system from our range.
What is a construction site alarm system?
A construction site alarm system is an alarm system that keeps both the employees safe and reduces the risk of damage to the construction site should it start a fire. The alarm ensures that a possible fire is detected early so that everyone in the area has time to evacuate. The alarm system is specifically developed for construction projects and therefore they are often called ” construction alarms “. A construction site alarm system can also refer to a system that sounds the alarm when unauthorized people enter the construction site to steal valuable tools or, for example, doodle.
How does the alarm work?
Hede Safety offers construction site alarm systems from Cygnus alarm and EVAC+. The Cygnus alarm is a wireless fire alarm that alarms with both light and sound in the event of a fire. Since construction sites are workplaces with a lot of activity and movement, the alarm is equipped with a sound signal with an extra high sound level so that no one can miss that the alarm is going off.
A construction site alarm system from Cygnus alarms includes fire call points, smoke and heat detection and first aid call points. To be able to track all fires in the workplace, it is a good idea to supplement the alarm with a control panel. The control panel can also collect data from other devices such as intruder alarms.
Evacuate quickly
To ensure that the evacuation goes quickly and smoothly, it is a good idea to choose a building alarm from EVAC+. The construction site alarm system uses a wireless mesh radio signal that covers larger construction sites. The alarm’s control panel can collect data from around 30 devices deployed in the workplace and alert staff if a fire starts. For the system, you can choose between two different types of alarm buttons ーa unit that alarms at 85 decibels and a unit that alarms at 110 decibels.
Laws and regulations on fire equipment on the construction site
The construction contractor is responsible for fire safety on the construction site. This means that the construction contractor must, among other things, ensure that it is possible to evacuate the workplace and that there is fire protection.
According to the Swedish Work Environment Authority , there must be fire equipment easily accessible on the construction site and the places where they are found must be clearly marked with signs. Fire drills must also be carried out regularly.
Examples of places where fire detectors and alarm systems are needed according to the Swedish Work Environment Authority
- Where flammable substances are used.
- Where escape routes are long.
- Where a large number of people are at the same time.
